The SLP experience was quite a surprise to me. I have experienced or known about a wide range of leadership development programmes and although all of them have something to offer and are opportunities for growth I have to say that this programme is outstanding. There are many reasons for this:

1. The design of the programme is superb. You are told not to reveal your work identity until late in the programme. The impact of this is profound as the participants are freed from the constraining preconceptions that accompany knowing what someone does. This freedom provides is an opportunity to work with real people rather than their work personas. Some of the power of this programme is learning how much greater each of us is when we allow our whole selves to be expressed in our work.

2. The intellectual material is very well chosen and of a high quality. Working with the patterns and information during syndicates adds levels of meaning that remains with you.

3. There is no sense that good leaders fit into one or two ‘best’ profiles. Each participant is treated with deep respect for the gifts that they bring to their teams, organisations and the programme. It is obvious that each programme is co-created by Geoff and the tutors and each one is different depending on the mix. I don’t think anyone walks away not desiring and expecting themselves to perform at a higher level.

4. Each participant and their syndicate has their own Coach who, remarkably, brings deep insight and learning in very short spaces of time. This aspect of the programme was intensely powerful and different for each person.

5. The range of challenges is wide enabling everyone to excel at some things and then stretch with others. Learning can be easily replicated back in the workplace.

6. This is not an individualistic programme or one dimensional. Participants learn about multiple aspects of themselves and each other and to rely on each other and respect the gifts of others in fresh ways. In a swiftly changing world where great teams are vital, this programme provides a stunning opportunity for senior execs to learn how to improve their leadership of diverse teams.

7. The benefits of this programme are lasting. I can sincerely say I was rewired during the experience and what began during the programme is continuing in my role.

I must admit to attending the Programme with a little trepidation. However, it was within the first few hours that my reticence evaporated and I came to realise that this was ‘all about me’ – an unusual sensation; an outstanding opportunity to work on ‘me’ without my usual audience and responsibilities.

The experience exceeded my expectations many fold. I met fabulous fellow professionals, in a safe team environment, where I was able to take off my protective shield, be myself, explore changes to my approach and enhance some of my inter-personal skills. The team environment provided excellent benchmarking, and an opportunity to re-evaluate my priorities, my ambitions and my aspirations.
